US drilling giant Transocean has secured a new contract offshore India with local private player Reliance Industries for one of its drillships.

Upstream has previously reported that Reliance and project partner BP were seeking a drilling rig to carry out operations in the gas-rich Krishna Godavari basin.

The Reliance-BP venture operates the prolific KG-D6 asset in the basin, home to multiple oil and natural gas producing fields.
