Middle East offshore yard Drydocks World (DDW) has inaugurated its China procurement centre to optimise its global supply chain.

The Drydocks World China Procurement Centre will be jointly operated by DDW and Chinese piping specialist WH-Steel, which is now fully authorised to manage all of DDW’s procurement activities within China.

The establishment aims to build a more responsive, cost-effective and lower-risk collaborative supply chain system, WH-Steel said in a media release.

“The decision comes amid profound transformations in the global supply chain landscape and is rooted in a trusted partnership dating back to 2018.”

WH-Steel chairman Dony Zhang stated at the inauguration ceremony: “This cooperation is not only a comprehensive upgrade of our partnership depth but also the construction of a new supply system characterised by ‘diversified procurement’ and ‘high-efficiency synergy’.”

Rashed Almehairbi, vice president of procurement at Drydocks World, highlighted the strength of the relationship.

“Years of close cooperation have led Drydocks World to highly trust the safety and reliability of WH-Steel’s services. WH-Steel is a partner we can stand shoulder-to-shoulder with to create a better future.”

The centre is expected to generate significant synergies, providing the company with a more stable, diversified and efficient pillar for its supply chain needs, according to WH-Steel.

The company will leverage this partnership to deepen its international business expansion. WH-Steel is committed to supporting high-quality global outreach for Chinese manufacturing, and enhancing the quality and sophistication of local industry within the global landscape.

WH-Steel is China’s major manufacturer and supplier of pipeline equipment, and it operates in more than 60 countries.
